What was your motivation? What lifestyle changes did you make to get results?
I have been on this roller coaster with my weight for years until I decided to do something to better my health. In October 2022, I went to the doctor for my physical, and my PCP told me that my numbers were in the diabetic range, I had high blood pressure, and I was too short to be this overweight. BEING TOLD ALL THAT…THAT WAS MY MOTIVATION. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT MY HEALTH!

My doctor told me that she had to put me on medication this time because my numbers were also in the diabetic range during my previous visit. She put me on a very low dose (once a week) of a shot called Mounjaro. I was very scared to take the shot because I had never heard of it, but my PCP stated that the benefits outweighed the risks.

Next, I went to the grocery store to get more healthy food choices to eat so I could change my eating habits. My doctor sent me to a diabetes nutritionist to help get me back on track. I started eating more baked chicken, fish, veggies, and whey protein shakes. I cut out eating sweets and carbs.

My doctor kept me on the low-dose shot and said, “I want to see you back in three months for a follow-up.” My starting weight was 193 pounds, and I’m only 4’10”.

When I went back to see her in January 2023, I weighed 168 pounds. I lost 25 pounds in three months. My A1C went from 7.2 to 6.5, but I still wasn’t out of the woods just yet. So I started walking more and using dumbells.

When I went back again in April 2023, I weighed in at 157 pounds. I lost 11 more pounds in 3 months. Guess what? My A1C went from 6.5 to 5.4, and my blood pressure numbers looked great (YAYYYYYY!) My doctor said my numbers all looked GREAT and to stay on track.

I did this in 7 months. I see my diabetes nutritionist twice a month as well. I thank GOD, and I feel AMAZING! All of my clothes are wayyyyy too big. It feels so good to get back into my clothes that were once too little.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is WE MUST TAKE CONTROL OF OUR HEALTH, OR IT WILL TAKE CONTROL OF US!

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice is NEVER to give up! You have to get control over your health!
